Sunday School Report
"The Lord bless thee, and keep thee. The Lord make his face shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee. The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee and give thee peace"(Numbers, Chapter 6:24-26).
At Christ Church, we foster a warm and caring environment for your youngest parishioners, helping children to grow in their love of God and understanding of Christ's teachings. Children learn the word of God through Bible study, song, and activity. Through individual class time and group gatherings, we want children to feel they are important members of the Christ Church family and precious children of God.
Nursery care is provided for infants through 3 years old. Our nursery is staffed each week by Abbie. Abbie is a high school senior and is First Aid trained.
Sunday School classes begin at the pre-school level and run through high school. We have a dedicated team of teachers for the 2016/2017 term that meet with our children each Sunday morning. They are:
Pre K-1st: Becky Patino
2nd-3rd : Donna Lafata and Stephanie Hutchison
4th-5th: Marybeth Clarke and Richard Marvin
6th-8th: Page Pelphrey
9th-12th: Alex Diana
Substitutes: Linda Reich, Sara Trotter, and Lisa Ste.Marie
Each Sunday, Pre-K through 5th grade meets with Laurie Varley, Sunday School Director, for "Chapel Time." The Bible story for that particular Sunday is introduced, children share "Prayers and Praises," and children also participate in craft activities.
From 10:00 a.m. -10:40 a.m., children attend their Sunday School class, based on their school grade. At 10:40 a.m., we meet with Mr. Sullivan in the parish hall for music time.
Page Pelphrey, director of the middle school program, meets with her class for Bible study.
We continue with the program called, "Weaving God's Promises," which is an Episcopal Bible-based program that emphasizes worship, education, and service as the three-fold components of Christian living. The curriculum is entirely online, allowing teachers to customize their lesson plans and print only what is necessary for their age group.
Summer:
Christ Church offered Vacation Bible School for children kindergarten-6th grade. This year's theme was, "Deep Sea Discovery" -- God is with me wherever I go. VBS ran 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon each day. 22 children attended VBS.
Fall:
The first day of the new Sunday School year was September 11. Our Bible lessons focused on stories from the Old Testament.
Winter:
Our Christmas Eve Pageant was held at 4:30 p.m. A special thank-you to Suky Bryan for rehearsing and leading the children's orchestra. Thank you also to Donna Lafata, Stephanie Hutchison, Becky Patino, and Marybeth Clarke for their help with the rehearsal and pageant.
Our nursery has been relocated downstairs, last door on the left. This ensures that our Sunday School and nursery are adhering to Safe Church Guidelines by having all classes on the same floor.
During the Advent season, children decorated a variety of Chrismon ornaments. “Chrismon” means the monogram of Christ. These ornaments are a variety of different Christian symbols. They are also decorated gold, white, silver, and yellow. Our Chrismon ornaments were displayed on our Chrismon tree in the parish hall. Individuals from Pre-K through high school participated in making these beautiful ornaments. Our Chrismon tree was a reminder of the real reason we celebrate the Christmas season, to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ.
It's a blessing to be a part of Christ Church. Thank you for allowing me to serve your children and families.
(Note: Laurie did not include anything from spring as she joined our team in the summer.)
