Counting
Many thanks to our team of Gene Bishop, Bob Cairns, Bill Cuddy, Caroline Herrick, David Jones, Melissa Lamoreaux, Ted Sands, and Paul Whitman, who process our weekly collections. This includes all the funds earned from special fund-raising events that Christ Church sponsors, such as the tag sale, chili supper, Christmas wreaths, cookie sales, hot chocolate booth, and Christmas and Easter flowers, etc. Supportive paperwork is filled out, totals verified, and a bank deposit made. Also special thanks go to Jane Ferrell, who has been a great asset to our team, but due to other responsibilities had to drop out. If figures and paperwork is your thing, we could sure use an extra set of hands to help out. The commitment is normally a couple of hours each month and you would work in teams of two. Please contact me for additional information.

Newcomers
We have welcomed several new families and individuals this past year and are planning a brunch for them and their children in February or early spring, as we have done over the past years. When we have had a larger number of new members of the church, we have often had two celebrations.
There are a number of other ways to reach out to these new faces -- one way is to drop bread off at their house with a note of thanks for coming to Christ Church, and offer to answer any questions they may have. If we don't see them again or not often, we send a note, "We missed you today," or "It was so nice to meet you and hope to see you soon again," or "Join us for a coffee hour."We keep lists of new names and addresses taken from the pamphlets placed at the end of all the pews and from the guest book at the back of the church that we ask them to sign as they're leaving.
There are other ways to recognize "new faces," with the help of the congregation. If you see someone unfamiliar, go up to them and say Hello. Be friendly! We have heard a few "new faces" say that they don't feel we have a very friendly church, which saddens us, of course. We need to improve our public relations. I have noticed consistently over the years, for instance, that far too many church members do not attend events held in the church, such as concerts, talks, meditation, Bible study, coffee hour, and even funerals! So let's put a little more effort into being a welcoming church, a place people like to be on Sundays and other occasions.Thank you!

Ushers
I would like to especially thank all ushers who assisted at the 2016 Christmas services. Thank you to all the ushers, who have done an outstanding job in 2016. We have a very friendly group who does their best to welcome all who attend
Christ Church. The ushers arrive 20 minutes early on their designated Sunday each month. They welcome guests, distribute programs, ring the bell, and assist anyone needing special assistance. During the service, a couple is invited to take the communion elements to the altar. The ushers are responsible for the offerings and direct the communion. After the service is over, ushers are responsible for cleaning the pews and making sure the rear of the church is left in an orderly state.
Please contact Mardee Moore at email [email protected] if you have any interest in joining this ministry.

8:00 AM Liturgical Assistants
The liturgical assistants at the 8 a.m. service are dedicated and faithful in their service at the early service and at combined services. They read the lessons and psalms, lead the Prayers of the People, and serve as chalice bearers. Those who serve are Elliot Wilcox, Richard Christofferson, Katherine Kingsbury, Diane Barker, Susan Pogue, Janet Moffat, and Andrew Doss.
Alicia Bacon faithfully served as a reader before moving to the 10 a.m. service. We all were very saddened at the death of Donald Pogue, who served as chalice bearer.
We have been fortunate that Andrew Doss, who is serving as an intern at Christ Church this year, has been reading and serving as a chalice bearer. We would welcome the participation of anyone who would like to help in the services. Please talk with our Rector, Harrison, about participating in this meaningful way in the service.

10:00 AM Liturgical Assistants
It is indeed a welcome opportunity to be able to thank each and every lay liturgical assistant for your enthusiastic and capable service throughout the past year at our 10 a.m. and combined services. You are the much-needed extra pieces integral to all our worship services, whether by reading, leading Prayers of the People, or serving the chalice at Holy Eucharist.
I am most grateful for the many blessings each of you bestows with your unique talents to our finely tuned services. If you would like to join our lay liturgical group to read or serve the chalice, please let Harrison, Pat Wakefield, or me know. We welcome new members throughout the year.
