Senior Warden's Report
Another year has gone by. It doesn’t seem possible! They say with every year we get older, time goes by faster and faster. It sure feels that way (No age disclosure here!), which made me think of our own parish’s life span. Soon we will be 275 years old. By now our parish year should go by in a blink!
Thankfully, a year is still 365 days (a very long parish “blink”). We’ve managed to fill those 365 days with a multitude of activities, celebrations, prayerful gatherings, and a long list of accomplishments.
Some events have become like old friends to us: the Chili Supper, the Spaghetti Supper, the Rector’s Roast Beef Dinner (are you recognizing our Episcopal food frenzy yet?), the summer services at Jacobs Beach, the children’s Christmas Pageant, our picnics in the backyard, the Easter Egg Hunt, the acolytes’ car wash, the EECW’s September tag sale, placing food in the Food Bank basket every week, our Annual Meeting, and, of course, the prayerful celebrations of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.
Doesn’t seem possible that we could fit anything new into our already busy parish days, but we did, with events both little and large: Cookie sales have expanded to include bread sales; We had four more home gatherings this fall; Downton Abby came to our parish as a candlelight supper; We joyfully welcomed our new Sunday School director this summer; Habitat for Humanity was building on the Green, thanks to many of you; Our Junior Warden kept workers busy all year as she sleuthed out needed repairs; Many of us got to hear the Bishop Curry’s powerful speech at this year’s Diocesan Convention, thanks to the wonders of internet technology and parishioner know-how (Remember! “Go to the Rock!”); Parishioners started beautifying areas of our yard, helping to “Make Our Gardens Grow” quite literally; The children’s Sunday School and our choir have also grown this year, filling our church and hearts with song; and last but not least, Consecration Sunday happened, providing us with a time for prayerful giving and spiritual growth.
Wow! Just think... that’s just part of what happened this year!
On a personal note, I want to take just a minute to thank all of you for your generous support, encouragement, prayers, and guidance these past two years. My term as Senior Warden ends in just a few short days, but my love and appreciation for our parish and all of you will continue for a lifetime.
Prayers and gratitude,
Pat
A suggestion: We should start thinking about how we want to celebrate our 275th anniversary year. It’s only two years away. Start planning now... because time goes by in a blink!
